From Plot to Profit: Turning Harvests into Higher Income
Women farmers are not just producers they are entrepreneurs building the future of agriculture.
During our WAU session, Tatenda Rumbidzai Murefu , Food Technologist, Researcher, Lecturer & Value Addition Expert shared how women can unlock more income through value addition.
Too often, farmers sell raw produce at low farm gate prices, while processed products earn significantly more.
Her message was clear:
✅ Move from price-taker to price-maker
✅ Reduce post-harvest losses
✅ Turn crops into sauces, oils, lotions, dried foods, juices & other products
✅ Package and brand for better markets
“When you process your food, you take control of your product, your market, and your economic future.”
At WAU, we continue empowering women to move beyond farming into profitable agribusiness.
Empowering women. Empowering a nation.

Planting the Seed of Change: Women as Agribusiness Leaders
We were privileged to have Martha Nyabadza, Programs Manager at Empretec Zimbabwe, share powerful insights on transforming the way women view and participate in agriculture.
Her message was clear: women are not just farmers, we are entrepreneurs, innovators, leaders, and drivers of economic transformation.
Through platforms like the Women in Agriculture Union (WAU), women continue to connect, learn, grow, and access opportunities that strengthen their role in building sustainable agribusinesses.
To succeed, women need more than passion. We need an entrepreneurial mindset, access to knowledge, finance, technology, markets, mentorship, and strong networks that help turn potential into prosperity.
When a woman in agriculture succeeds:
• Families thrive
• Communities grow stronger
• Economies become more inclusive
• Future generations are empowered
The call is simple: Plant the seed of change. Take action. Embrace opportunities. Build businesses that transform agriculture.
Thank you

There is something powerful about women stepping into leadership in agriculture, not just in the fields, but in the rooms where decisions are made.
As Women in Agriculture Union (WAU), we continue to see that real transformation happens when women are not only participants, but leaders, influencers, and policy shapers in the agricultural space. Our voices matter. Our experiences matter. And when we take up space, we shift systems.
We were privileged to host Sakhile Sifelani-Ngoma, Executive Director of the Women in Politics Support Unit (WIPSU), who shared insightful perspectives on the critical link between women’s leadership and policy impact in agriculture.
Her message was clear - empowering women in agriculture goes beyond production. It is about ensuring women are represented where policies are crafted, resources are allocated, and the future of agriculture is shaped.
As WAU, we remain rooted in building confident, informed, and empowered women who are ready to lead, influence, and transform agriculture in Zimbabwe.

Happy Mother's Day to all women farmers

WAU recently visited the Wenashe Farms training site where our 18-month Soilless Farming Program, proudly sponsored by EEP Africa, has been running since June 2025.
Nearly 11 months later, this is no longer just a training project, it is visible proof that when women are given knowledge, practical skills, and opportunity, lives begin to change.
Bucket by bucket.
Seedling by seedling.
Harvest by harvest.
We are watching women grow into producers, entrepreneurs, and providers.
Through this program, participants are learning to:
• set up NFT and bucket hydroponic systems
• manage crop production professionally
• keep agribusiness records
• sort and package produce for market
• sell and earn income from what they grow
This is more than farming.
It is confidence restored.
Hope restored.
Dignity restored.
The impact is visible not only in the crops, but in the women themselves.
Because when women are given a chance, they grow more than vegetables, they grow a new future.
