On paper splitting the L'Atelier backrest design initially looked simple.

I originally estimated around twice the work and time but definitely became five times, and much more complex as the alignment and attachments had to be tested several times.

At the end I enjoyed this new feature to my designs and today I own this skill. An easier technique does exist to create this illusion but I wanted it to be genuine and true to the craft.

Something new I am testing on the 20mm tubing for the new Japon design.

Did you know that tubing is not always flat, and is slightly convex which requires a sanding product that can flex.

Lately I have been prepping the sections upfront before any cutting or welding starts just to give me a head start during final preperations for painting.

Painting also requires deep lines into the raw metal to secure bonding and produce a lasting paint finish.
