Orientation decides where the light falls in a room at 7am and at 5pm, which spaces will always feel bright and which will need help feeling warm.

Get this right at the planning stage, and everything downstream, layout, glazing, even paint tone, works with the room instead of against it.

Why furniture scale and proportion make or break a room 🤔

A stunning sofa in the wrong scale will make a large room feel empty & a small room feel cramped. It's one of the most common & most fixable, mistakes in interior design.

Proportion is decided long before furniture is chosen; it starts with the spatial plan.

This is exactly why we plan spaces before we style them.

'When should we start talking to a designer?'

Earlier than you'd think. Long before the paint colours, before the furniture, sometimes even before the building plans are finalised.

The earlier we're involved, the more the design and the build can move together instead of one correcting the other.

The detail that took the longest to get right in House M wasn't the biggest one, it was a single run of bespoke joinery in the living room, remeasured twice to sit perfectly against the window line.

Clients rarely notice details like this consciously. They just know the room feels right.

What a concept board is actually for.

It's not a mood board of pretty pictures. It's a working document, testing how colours, materials and finishes behave together before a single item is ordered.

Get it right on paper, and the real room comes together with almost no surprises. Skip it, and even beautiful pieces can fight each other in the space.

This is Phase 1 of our process, and it's where every successful project is won 😁

The parts of this job no one sees:

The third supplier call to track down one fabric. The site visit to check a finish in the right light. The follow-up email, the revised drawing, the patient wait for a bespoke piece to finally arrive.

None of it is glamorous. All of it is the reason the finished room feels effortless.
