Strengthening capacities for effective migration management in Kosovo.

IOM has delivered 14 tablets to the Kosovo Border Police, with support from the Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo (SEM), complementing earlier donations of 11 tablets and 30 desktop computers to advance the digitalization of migration management.

The devices will support secure, efficient and accurate migrant registration and case processing through integration with the Biometric Identification System (BIS).

What does it take to return home and start again?

Through IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme, vulnerable migrants receive support to return home safely and with dignity—from travel assistance to tailored reintegration support.

This initiative is implemented by IOM Kosovo with the support of Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo (SEM).

The Multistakeholder Forum on Migration, jointly organized by IOM and the central authorities, brought together institutions, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector to discuss how migration, labour mobility, and diaspora can be better integrated into the Kosovo Development Strategy 2030. Discussions focused on strengthening strategic alignment, improving monitoring and data systems, and enhancing inter-institutional coordination.

The forum reaffirmed the importance of coordinated action among authorities and across society to strengthen migration governance, helping ensure that the Kosovo Development Strategy 2030 reflects Kosovo's evolving development needs.

This activity was organized by IOM Kosovo within the framework of the project “Enhance Migration Governance through Evidence-Based Programming and Strengthening Capacities of Authorities”, funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo (SEM).

IOM is organizing a series of four meetings with Border Police Officials and other counterparts from the Elez Han, Vermica, Merdare, and Kulla to jointly discuss the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) and methodologies for identifying migrants in areas near the crossing points. These discussions aim to harmonize practices across locations and strengthen registration and reporting mechanisms.

In parallel, IOM is also presenting its Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme, highlighting the support available for migrants who choose to return voluntarily to their countries of origin.
