For us Troscan | Furniture Designers + Makers, the two have to work together.

Our Torri sofa is designed to be experienced from every side. The architecture wraps around you, the upholstered forms become part of the silhouette, and we give just as much design attention to the back as we do to the front.

We like leaving evidence of the process.

These bronze forms begin with a deliberately worked surface, built up, carved into and shaped before they ever reach their final finish.

Up close, you can read every mark. Once assembled into a finished piece, those marks become part of its character and always a nod to nature.

That’s something we think about constantly at Troscan.

Today we’re taking you through the part of Troscan | Furniture Designers + Makers most people don’t get to see: our Chicago manufacturing facility, where the furniture moves from idea to material to finished piece.

We’ll make our way through upholstery, assembly, sanding, finishing and shipping, stopping along the production line to see what our craftspeople have on their benches right now.

…And then there’s the elm.
It came from Bob’s front yard. Now those same trees have made their way into our sanding and finishing department, where an entirely different life for the wood is beginning.

This is the everyday rhythm of Troscan…and a lot of hands between the first cut of wood to the shipping crate that make it happen!
