A remodel invites a lot of opinions. The builder has one, the architect has another, and there's usually a Pinterest board with fifty saved kitchens somewhere in the mix.

The homeowners who end up happiest all made the same call early: get the construction documents finished and specific enough that a contractor is pricing decisions rather than filling in blanks.

That's what keeps a number from growing once trades are already on-site. Incomplete drawings get filled in with allowances, and allowances are decisions someone still has to make later, typically mid-project when you have the least bandwidth to make them.
