My new Sorelle collection for Visual Comfort & Co. came from a simple idea: sometimes all a space needs is a beautifully proportioned matte glass orb for a soft, diffused glow—nothing more. I designed Sorelle as a quiet workhorse, with a wide range of sizes and configurations for different spaces.

After years of development, I’m excited to launch a new partnership with Visual Comfort & Co..

Hey, I’m Richard.

I’m a designer based in Portland, Oregon.

I started this studio because I enjoy making things and wanted the freedom to explore ideas I felt were worth pursuing.

What began in a small workshop has slowly grown into collaborations with some incredible companies, craftspeople, and friends. But not much has changed. I still spend most of my time sketching, building prototypes, and working through details.

The goal is simple: make things people will want to keep around.

Most of my days are spent sketching, building prototypes, and working through details. The goal isn’t really to make something different—it’s to make something feel right.

Over time I’ve found that the best solutions are usually the simplest ones. They just take longer to get there.

I believe the things we live with every day deserve to be made well.
