〰️ Transforming Scrap into Artwork 〰️

🪵 Materials: Coast Live Oak + Nickel-Plated Aluminum

📏 Dimensions: 60” L × 20” W × 18” H

Origin: Grand Ave, South Pasadena & South San Rafael Ave, Pasadena

This table top is made from rescued Live Oak offcuts from larger KEITA projects. Instead of treating those smaller pieces as waste, Jessie individually milled them, determined the placement of each tile, and cast them together in epoxy to create a new cohesive surface.

For the legs we adapted the aluminum plate fabrication methods used for the Wesleyan conference table, and nested the components into an aluminum sheet alongside our Avalon table design to minimize material waste. The nickel-plated aluminum uses our metal mortise and screw-tapping methods, with joints designed to be disassembled and reassembled.

〰️ Why Urban Harvested Wood ? 〰️

🌳 As the climate crisis continues, urban trees play an important role in regulating our environment. Los Angeles’ 6 million urban trees store an estimated 19.5 million tons of carbon, while helping offset fossil fuel emissions.

🪚♻️ But trees inevitably come down due to windstorms, construction, and other factors. We believe that when that happens, the carbon they’ve stored doesn’t have to go to waste. Reclaiming urban hardwoods and turning them into heirloom quality furniture keeps that carbon locked into the material.

🌳 At KEITA, we work with reclaimed Live Oak, Eucalyptus, Black Locust, Chinese Elm, and other species from LA’s urban canopy. We design around the tree’s natural growth patterns, grain, knots, and history.

〰️ We’re Moving Onto Better! 〰️

🎉 A new chapter for KEITA is underway.

We’ve officially started moving into a new warehouse, giving us more room to grow, refine our process, and take on what’s next.

The video shows our old warehouse being organized and packed up for the move. As you can probably guess, moving tonnes of wood from one space to another is not a small task. But the new space (pictured below) will give us the room we need to keep pushing our work and sustainable furniture forward. ♻️

🪵 One of our first designs- The Rhombus Nesting Tables are a set of Coast Live Oak coffee tables designed to fit together in multiple configurations.

Both tables follow the natural patterns of the original tree, specifically a unique two-pronged shape inspired by a split in one of its branches.

🪚 Using digital templates and the CNC at Obsydian Studios, we refined each piece while preserving it’s original character.

Eucalyptus Console Table

🌳 What began as a single slab of fallen Redgum Eucalyptus is now the star of this Pasadena foyer 🌳

To preserve the slab’s natural knots, and dramatic grain we decided to make a series of controlled cuts beneath the slab, and were able to gently pull it flat to the frame while still allowing for natural movement over time. The hardware is concealed with custom plugs cut from the same eucalyptus, leaving a record of the process on the surface.
