It isn’t about the furniture…

It’s about how many journeys we can make together, how close we can stay, and for how long.

This was a recent delivery to Indiana. I love personal delivery, for all the reasons a custom furniture maker does. Also, the maiden voyage of our first ever trailer ().

The trailer was a major delivery upgrade - an opportunity made possible by the Paul and Pascale Edelman Giving Fund for independent furniture makers (). I would have never thought, 10-years ago, I’d be so excited (and grateful) to own a box with wheels, but this is one of my favorite things.

Delivery is the most precarious moment in a furniture piece’s life. The ability to get a piece from my workshop to install site () safe and sound AND to meet and reunite with clients () AND to travel with family… That’s my kind of journey.

It’s a bookshelf.

This commissioned bookshelf was made to support the weight of a library of art books. Each shelf is rated at 250lbs.

The backing is a mix of Ambrosia Maple and Walnut, specified by client. I was thinking to wedge the dowels securing the backing to shelves, to force the backing to cling tight to the shelves, but decided to try something different. Instead of using traditional wedges, I used pointy tipped bamboo skewers and just drilled holes. I think this will have the same effect, as to cause the top of the dowel to flare out just enough to keep the backing snug against the shelves. I think it works.
