Paint Touchup vs. Full Repaint: Which Do You Need?

Paint plays a major role in protecting your home while keeping it looking its best. Over time, however, everyday wear, weather, and sunlight can leave walls and exterior surfaces looking less than perfect.

When that happens, many homeowners face the same question: Should you simply touch up the damaged areas, or is it time for a full repaint? The answer depends on several factors, including the age of the paint, the extent of the damage, and your long-term goals. Understanding the difference between these two approaches can help you make a smart investment in your property.

almost never go the way you hope they will unless the painting was done just recently. Having the paint color and sheen helps, but the sheen will fade over time with sun exposure. If your wall was painted years ago, it will not look the same. Also, there is not an industry standard, and sheens will look different based on application, so touchups are never guaranteed to fully blend.

If you tell us the paint was done recently that is what we rely on. Recent is within a few months to a year, but in Colorado we are closer to the sun, and the sun fades. It is imperative that we have the same paint color and sheen, but if the space is in an area that is hit by the sun, it can begin fading immediately. It will fade unevenly in some cases because some parts will inevitably be shaded.

Not providing your contractor with the correct information will lead to touchups not blending, or matching the rest of the space. It is unavoidable, and if it doesn't blend, that means your space will require a full repaint. A full , even larger spots, or specific walls is not part of a touchup project, and will incur additional labor costs.
