Uganda Market Intelligence Update | Local Prices Meet International Signals
This week’s M-Omulimisa Market Intelligence update shows why farmers and traders need both local market data and wider market signals.
Maize remains one of the key commodities to watch. In today’s update, maize grain is around:
• Farmgate: UGX 1,000-1,050/kg
• Kampala markets: UGX 1,230-1,350/kg
• Busia market: UGX 1,100-1,280/kg
This kind of spread helps farmers understand whether selling locally, waiting, bulking, or targeting a different market may offer better value.
We are also tracking coffee and cocoa more closely because local prices are affected by both Uganda market conditions and international demand.
Local market prices in today’s workbook:
• Kiboko coffee: UGX 5,500-6,500/kg
• FAQ coffee: UGX 12,000-13,000/kg
• Arabica parchment: UGX 16,000-17,000/kg
• Drugar coffee: UGX 15,000-16,000/kg
• Cocoa: UGX 22,000-25,000/kg
International reference prices:
• Arabica: about USD 7.10/kg, or UGX 26,783/kg
• Robusta: about USD 3.53/kg, or UGX 13,308/kg
• Cocoa: about USD 6.65/kg, or UGX 25,070/kg
These international figures are not farmgate prices. They are reference prices that help us understand the direction of global markets. The final price received locally still depends on quality, grade, moisture content, certification, transport, buyer requirements, and timing.
At M-Omulimisa, we are combining local price collection, seasonal patterns, weather data, regional demand, international price signals, and our forecasting pipeline to move beyond price reporting.
The goal is practical: help farmers make better selling decisions.

Uganda Market Intelligence Update | 24 August 2026
Today’s market update shows a mixed start to the week across Kampala Markets, Busia, and farmgate prices.
A few notable movements from today’s collection:
Maize grain in Kampala Markets increased from about UGX 925/kg to UGX 1,175/kg
Beans - Masavu in Kampala Markets rose from about UGX 4,100/kg to UGX 4,650/kg
Beans - Nambaale also edged upward in Kampala Markets
Tomatoes - Uganda eased from about UGX 200,000 to UGX 180,000 per box
Rice - Super and some grain/oilseed commodities softened in Kampala Markets
Our price forecasting pipeline is also continuing to improve as we add more organic market data. For today’s matched forecasts, the median error was 0.6%, meaning many predicted prices were very close to the actual market prices collected.
This is why M-Omulimisa Market Intelligence is moving beyond price reporting. We are building a service that helps farmers, traders, and partners understand market direction and make better selling decisions.

Strengthening Digital Agricultural Extension in Karamoja
Our Training of Trainers (ToT) journey across the Karamoja sub-region successfully concluded yesterday in Amudat District at the Grassroots Alliance for Rural Development (GARD) field office.
The session brought together Farmer Field School (FFS) facilitators who are key to delivering agricultural knowledge and innovation directly to farming communities.
During the training, Mr. Mubarak Muhindo logged the Implementing Partner into the FFS-MIS digital system, after which the Super Administrator, Ms. Anyakun Evaline, registered the facilitators onto the platform.
Participants were then taken through the FFS-MIS system, learning how it supports the management of Farmer Field Schools and VSLA groups, while improving digital monitoring of agricultural activities.
The facilitators also explored how Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA) and Livestock Ecosystem Analysis (LESA) are integrated into the digital platform to support farmer learning and decision making.
One of the most impressive highlights was the digital readiness of the facilitators, many of whom demonstrated strong smartphone navigation skills, making the training highly interactive and productive.
This activity is implemented under the Project – Improving Food Security and Resilience of Food Production Systems in Karamoja (FOSTER) and is supported through a partnership with FAO Uganda.
Together, we continue to strengthen digital agricultural extension systems, improve farmer learning, and build resilient food production systems in Karamoja.
