A new member of the Perya fam 👶just arrived — 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆. 🎪

And yes, you can still 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻. Choose your Perya Bag, straps, colors, fabric, extra pockets and custom patches. Mix, match, make it yours.

By popular demand, we’ve scheduled another drop of our Candied Inukit Dayap with Pastillas.

Good things take time. These take a little more. 😅

Each native dayap is carefully selected, individually hand-carved and slowly cooked in a traditional brass pot. The candied dayap is then kept submerged in sugar syrup, an old-fashioned way of preserving it until it is ready to be air-dried and filled with pastillas.

But being in the jar doesn’t mean they’re ready to eat just yet. 😉

For every drop, the candied dayap is taken from its syrup and properly air-dried for several days, depending entirely on the weather, before each piece is finally filled with rich Bulacan carabao’s milk pastillas.

Remember The Sound of Music, when the children were frightened by the thunderstorm and everyone started thinking about their favorite things? And somehow, after remembering all those little things they loved,

For this set, we asked our client to give us three of his favorite words.

One of them is 𝗗𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗧.

So down the rabbit hole, or perhaps into the deep sea, we went. 🌊

Nudibranchs, squid, shrimp and other strange little sea creatures. Corals and enormous curling waves. Scuba masks, fins and diving gear. Hokusai. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. The wonderfully peculiar aquatic world of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

We enjoy the research almost as much as making the patches - looking through references, discovering unfamiliar things, and learning a little more about your favorite things in the world.

All these references become pieces of a visual vocabulary that we can play with before drawing the final patch.

We like thinking of our custom souvenir patches as tiny records of the things you love - places, memories, obsessions, creatures, food, objects, films, or anything else that belongs in your own little world.

For this set, our customer asked for modern stripes and more utilitarian pockets. So we played with striped cotton silks and cotton jerseys — some bold and sporty, some crisp and graphic, some wonderfully retro, and some unexpectedly handsome. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹. :-)

We added expandable flap pockets for a little more utility, while keeping the familiar Perya Bag shape.

And because no Perya Bag is quite finished without a souvenir or two, 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗻-𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 and we’ll sew them onto your bag — or have us make a 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱.

Our August 14 drop of 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘂𝗸𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘀 has arrived and is ready for pick-up!

𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵. Each one is individually hand-carved, cooked in a brass pot, and left to macerate until beautifully candied. The dayap are then 𝗮𝗶𝗿-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟯–𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 before being filled with creamy carabao’s milk pastillas — a slow, painstaking process that keeps this old-fashioned Filipino confection alive.

And because something made slowly deserves a special home, each order comes in a little basket box handmade from 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹. Durable and meant to be kept, it can be reused long after the last dayap has disappeared. ♡

The customer for this custom order has always loved the beauty of the outdoors and nature, so for his custom 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘀, we looked to one of nature’s most unexpectedly beautiful creatures for inspiration: 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝘀.

Drawing from their incredible colors, we created a series of unexpected combinations, playing with linen, gingham, contrast piping, pockets and little details to translate each moth’s palette into a completely different 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗴.

The sweetness of 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗼’𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘀 is beautifully complemented by the subtle citrus notes of the candied dayap rind, creating a confection that is nostalgic, refined, and unlike any other.

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲.
𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿.

Tracing its roots to the era of the Malolos Women during the late Spanish colonial period, 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘂𝗸𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘀 is one of Bulacan’s rarest surviving heritage confections. Today, only a handful of artisans continue the tradition.

Each piece begins with the 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗽, each fruit individually chosen for its size and the quality of its rind.

The rind is 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱, after which the inside of the fruit is painstakingly removed using a specialized tool ingeniously improvised by the late Luz Ocampo, whose knowledge continues to be carried on by her daughter, 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘆 “𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘇” 𝗢𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗼-𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼.

The carved shells are slowly cooked in a traditional 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘁, rested in syrup for 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀—𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀—then 𝗮𝗶𝗿-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮–𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, depending entirely on the weather, before finally being filled with rich 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗼’𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘀.
