Nga Hau e Wha Marae is marking 45 years in Waihopai and is now preparing for a major redevelopment to strengthen and future-proof our marae for generations to come. Work to date includes progressing development designs, improving accessibility, and planning essential foundation and pile repairs, which are a priority for early 2026.

Alongside this mahi, a digital history project will commence in March 2026 to preserve kaumatua stories, photographs, and archival material. Preparation is already underway, with historical records and books currently being sorted by date.

We are aiming to raise $1.5 million to support the redevelopment of our marae, and a Give a Little page has been launched to begin our fundraising journey.

It is with great sadness Dad Miki Thompson passed away peacefully yesterday 24.3.2025 in his 100th year at Southland Hospice surrounded by his loving whanau. The mighty Totara tree has fallen in the house of "Tane". Details of Tangi TBC
