A proud night for the LumberBank team 👏

We’re excited to share that the LumberBank Auckland Office Building project has been awarded Silver at the 2026 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards.

This project was a unique opportunity to showcase our products in a live commercial environment — combining engineered timber systems, premium architectural finishes and coordinated building solutions all within one space.

From LumberWorx I-Beams and LVL systems through to Magna Glulam, LumberTherm PureOak and premium timber finishes, the project reflects what can be achieved when design, engineering and craftsmanship come together.

Massive thanks to everyone who played a part in the project and to the industry partners who helped bring the vision to life.

Technical Clarity: Timber Treatment for NZ Floor Systems 🏗️🌿

How do you balance “best practice” ideas with the actual New Zealand Building Code when designing timber floor systems?

When designing timber floor systems, it’s essential to distinguish between aspirational “best practice” suggestions and the real requirements of the NZ Building Code.

A common question we hear: What are the treatment levels for rim boards and floor joists in wet areas?

Regulatory Standard you need to know: H1.2

B2/AS1 sets H1.2 as the minimum treatment for all enclosed structural framing, including boundary joists and structural members under bathrooms and laundries.

Key design takeaways:

System Consistency: Using H1.2 for floor systems aligns with the H1.2 treatment used in wall studs and plates, delivering a uniform durability profile across the frame.

Wet Area Strategy: Protect wet areas with a robust H3.2 plywood substrate and impervious finishes. Beneath this shield, the structural joists stay protected as enclosed framing.

Efficiency: Aligning with the Building Code keeps projects compliant and cost-efficient.

From a manufacturer’s perspective, we’re committed to delivering high-performance I-joist systems that meet NZ’s rigorous standards.

Curious to hear your experience:

How do you approach treatment levels in mixed-use spaces?

Do you prefer system-wide consistency (H1.2 everywhere) or targeted protection for wet zones?
