The projects will: ✅ restore rivers, lakes and urban green spaces ✅ reduce flood risks and strengthen climate resilience ✅ protect biodiversity and valuable natural habitats ✅ improve emergency preparedness and disaster response ✅ support communities in tackling environmental challenges together.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘰-𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘈𝘐.

The European Commission is looking for 10 Cross-Border Ambassadors aged 18 to 30. Applications close on 31 August. If you work with young people in your border region, this is worth passing on.

The mandate runs from October 2026 to March 2027 and takes about two days a month: monthly online meetings with DG REGIO, contributions to the Border Focal Point Network's communication, and one personal project chosen by each Ambassador, from a short video to a policy brief.

✅ Open to 18-30 year olds living in an EU or EFTA country with a strong connection to a border region
✅ Application: a motivation letter of 500 words maximum and a video of 2 minutes maximum
✅ Certificate of Completion signed by DG REGIO at the end of the mandate

The call is open to a wide range of Interreg Europe A stakeholders, including public authorities, Interreg programme bodies, universities, research centres, civil society organisations, cooperation entities and other actors involved in territorial cooperation.

🌿 Cooling down cities & protecting our green heritage !

Bringing together 6 partners across Latvia and Lithuania, the 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 project is hard at work preserving valuable tree alleys and pioneering innovative urban greening solutions in Kurzeme and Northern Lithuania. 🌳

In the UNESCO heritage Old Town of Kuldīga (LV), partners are tackling urban heat stress head-on along the 700-meter-long concrete cobblestone pedestrian street:

🍃 POP-up Alley: A brand-new innovative green space is being introduced to provide crucial shade, lower surface temperatures, and enhance pedestrian comfort where traditional planting isn't possible.

📊 Smart Monitoring: 3 advanced heat sensors have been installed to track temperatures and feed real-time data directly into the ArcGIS system.

📈 Data-Driven Decisions: This monitoring helps city planners and decision-makers measure the alley's direct impact on heat stress and long-term climate resilience.

From preserving natural heritage to combating climate change, these joint efforts are making our cities more liveable, sustainable, and resilient for the future! 🌍💚

🌊 What are smart buoys doing in our lakes, and why does their accuracy matter to you?

The 6 smart buoys have been recently installed in Mastis and Germantas lakes in Lithuania, as well as Lukna, Lielais Ludzas, Mičurinietis, and Ciecere lakes in Latvia! 🇱🇻🇱🇹

These smart monitoring systems enable researchers and municipalities to track changes in lake conditions in real time.

Continuous monitoring makes it possible to:
💧 Detect environmental changes much earlier
🚨 Respond more quickly to potential pollution events
🌦️ Better understand how our lakes react to seasonal changes and weather conditions

💡By combining 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, project 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 demonstrates how innovation can strengthen freshwater management while helping to protect the many ecosystem services that healthy lakes provide to society.

Summer is halfway through, so does the Programme. Between holidays and summer activities, our team continues working on preparations for the months ahead.

📊 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁: We currently have 41 active projects, 26 completed their activities, and 14 new ones from our 3rd Call kicking off soon to focus on climate adaptation and biodiversity! 🌿
