The 7th General Assembly to take place in São Paulo
Registration is officially OPEN for the 7th WeGO General Assembly (GA) taking place on November 26-27 of 2026, in São Paulo, Brazil!
The WeGO General Assembly is a triennial event that gathers both members and partners to shape a key agenda that will help chart WeGO’s direction for the coming years. As the main governance meeting of WeGO, at the General Assembly, WeGO’s accomplishments are reviewed, and decisions are made on key agenda items such as the election of a new President City, Vice President Cities, Executive Committee Members, approval of statute changes, and selection of the next General Assembly host city.
About the Host City: São Paulo, Brazil
For the first time in WeGO history, the GA moves to Latin America! As a dynamic megacity, São Paulo currently serves as the Vice President City and Executive Committee member of WeGO. The host city prepared a special program for WeGO delegates, including technical tours, smart city-related sessions with high levels and cultural performances.

World Smart City Expo 2026 to Take Place in Busan
WeGO is pleased to share information on the World Smart City Expo 2026 (WSCE 2026), which will be held from September 9 to 11, 2026, in Busan, Republic of Korea.
As a newly joined WeGO member in 2026, Busan Metropolitan City showcases real-world smart city innovation—from Busan Port, the world’s second busiest transshipment hub leading global smart port transformation, to citywide AI- and data-driven services that are improving daily life in transportation, logistics, healthcare, and the environment. Backed by Eco Delta City, a National Pilot Smart City, Busan stands out as a living testbed for cutting-edge urban technologies and future-ready solutions.
Cities participating through a City/National Pavilion may showcase their smart city vision, flagship policies, and innovative solutions to an international audience. Eligible pavilions may also benefit from VIP delegation support, including round-trip international airfare and accommodation support for key officials, along with opportunities for G2G networking, global speaking sessions, one-on-one buyer meetings, corporate presentations, and business networking programs.
WSCE 2026 will provide an opportunity for cities, governments, industry leaders, and global stakeholders to explore smart city solutions, share best practices, and build meaningful partnerships.

The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) participated in the Chengdu International Friendship Cities Cooperation and Development Conference held in Chengdu, China on May 13–14, 2026. The conference brought together city leaders, government officials, and international organizations to strengthen global cooperation and exchange perspectives on sustainable urban development, innovation, and international partnership.
The conference officially commenced with an Opening Ceremony that emphasized the growing importance of international collaboration in addressing global urban challenges. Keynote speakers highlighted the role of cities in driving sustainable growth through innovation and technology. Among the distinguished speakers was Cai Lijun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, who delivered remarks on the importance of strengthening international friendship and city cooperation.
WeGO also participated in the Mayors Round-table, where Chen Shuping, Mayor of Chengdu delivered a keynote speech titled “Park City: Harmonious Coexistence.” Discussions among city leaders focused on promoting high-quality urban development through technological innovation, industrial synergy, cultural exchange, and ecological governance. Jeong-kee Kim, Secretary General of WeGO also contributed a speech on “Expanding high standard urban opening up through the industrial synergy”. The session provided an important platform for sharing experiences and policies among the cities.
Through its participation in the conference, WeGO reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international city cooperation and fostering global partnerships that support smart and sustainable urban development.

The WeGO Secretariat welcomed a delegation of sixteen MBA students from the University of Baltimore’s Global Business Program in Baltimore, United States.
The visit was designed to introduce WeGO’s role as a worldwide network and provide the students with insights into international organizations and strategic decision-making in the context of smart sustainable city development.
The WeGO Secretariat, represented by Program Manager, Mr. Lii Inn Tan, delivered a presentation outlining the organization’s vision and initiatives. Several flagship activities of WeGO were highlighted, including Capacity Building Projects, Feasibility Studies, the Seoul Smart City Prize, and the WeGO Smart Cities Index. In addition, the WeGO Smart City Champions was promoted by Program Officer, Ms. Tatiana Ferreira, to the delegation.
Through this visit, participants gained valuable insights into the principles of smart and sustainable city development. The event not only facilitated knowledge exchange but also fostered international dialogue on smart sustainable urban practices.

The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) will participate in the Luxembourg GRC Summit 2026, to be held on 3-4 June 2026 at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, with organization by the National Cybersecurity Competence Center Luxembourg.
This year’s Summit focuses on "Navigating cyber governance in the age of AI" and will bring together governance, risk and compliance professionals in cybersecurity from across Luxembourg, Europe and beyond.
WeGO's Program Director, Ms. Eunbyul Elena Cho, will join a panel discussion on "Enabling Interoperability Across Data Spaces: Strategies and Frameworks". The objective of this panel is to discuss different approaches to interoperability, including how it is integrated into current data spaces, the partners involved, the challenges faced, and the measures being taken to address them.
