What began in 1950 as the Palestinian Needlework Program for refugee women in Surif became women-run in 1979, and was reborn as Surif Women’s Cooperative in 1983. Since then, the women have built a distinct style all their own.

Instead of the popular eitamin cross-stitch canvas, they work on cream-colored mansouri cotton, a fabric that gives their embroidery its soft, warm base. Every pattern is created by counting threads by hand, a technique that produces the same striking precision on both sides of the fabric.

Their designs are adapted from the Palestinian dresses, carrying the traditional motif of the donkey, the camel, the olive tree, and more, each one rooted in village life and passed down through generations.

‎بلشت سنة 1950 كبرنامج للتطريز الفلسطيني للاجئات في صوريف، وبسنة 1979 صارت نسوان القرية هني يلي بيديروها، وبسنة 1983 تأسست رسمياً تعاونية نسوان صوريف. من هيك وهني بنيّوا أسلوب مميز الهم لحالهم.

‎بدل قماش “الإيتامين” المعروف للتطريز، بيشتغلوا على قماش قطن “المنصوري” بلونه الكريمي، يعطي التطريز قاعدة دافية وناعمة. كل غرزة بتنعمل بطريقة عد الخيوط باليد، طريقة بتطلّع نفس الدقة والجمال من الوجهين.

‎تصاميمهم مستوحاة من الثوب الفلسطيني التقليدي، وكل قطعة بتحكي عن تراث منطقة مختلفة: الحمار، الجمل، شجرة الزيتون، وأشكال تانية كتير، كلها متجذرة بحياة القرية وموروثة جيل عن جيل.

Every one of these onesies is hand silk-screened by the beneficiaries at Oasis Workshop in Beit Sahour, near Bethlehem, on garments sourced from one of the last surviving textile factories in Bethlehem.

Oasis gives adults with intellectual disabilities a place to work, create, and be an integral part of their community. Over the years, the program has grown to offer more ways for beneficiaries to do meaningful work, and hand silk-screening these onesies is one of them.

Every onesie you bring home helps keep this program running: daily transportation, wages, and a space where more than 32 beneficiaries get to do work they’re proud of.

كل Onesie من هدول مطبوع يدوياً بالطباعة الحريرية من المستفيدين بورشة الواحة (Oasis) بمدينة بيت ساحور، قريب من بيت لحم، على قماش من واحد من آخر مصانع النسيج المتبقية بمدينة بيت لحم.

ورشة الواحة بتعطي البالغين من ذوي الإعاقة الذهنية مساحة يشتغلوا فيها، يبدعوا، ويكونوا جزء أساسي من مجتمعهم. مع مرور السنين، البرنامج توسع وصار يقدّم طرق أكتر للمستفيدين يشتغلوا شغل ذو معنى، وطباعة هالـ Onesie هي وحدة منها.

كل Onesie بتشتروه بيساعدهم يحافظوا على استمرارية هالبرنامج: مواصلات يومية، أجور، ومساحة بتخلي اكتر ٣٢ مستفيد يعملوا شغل يفتخروا فيه.

Today we honor the memory of Sliman Mansour, one of Palestine’s most celebrated artists, who passed away at 79.

Mansour lent his eye for pattern and symbol to Surif Women’s Cooperative, designing embroidery pieces hand-stitched by the women there on traditional mansouri cotton.

We’re proud that these designs live on through the hands of the women who continue to embroider them, providing income and a source of livelihood for them, just as they have for decades. His impact reaches far beyond his own art, into the everyday work and dignity of the women who carry his designs forward.

اليوم منستذكر بحزن الفنان سليمان منصور، من أهم وأشهر الفنانين الفلسطينيين، اللي توفى عن عمر 79 سنة.

سليمان منصور وهب بصره للأنماط والرموز لتعاونية نساء صوريف، ورسم قطع تطريز طرزتها النساء هناك بإيديهن على القماش المنصوري التقليدي.

‎منفتخر إنو هالتصاميم لسا عايشة من خلال إيدين النساء اللي بيواظبوا على تطريزها، وبتوفرلهن دخل ومصدر رزق. تأثيره وصل لأبعد من فنه، لحياة وكرامة النساء اللي بيكملوا حمل تصاميمه كل يوم.
