Pari faux-shagreen tray celebrates Nature’s most precious skin. For centuries, the stingray, a creature of the deep sea, has captivated the human mind and imagination.

CushCush successfully developed technique of crafting faux shagreen that looks and feels similar to the real skin. There are numerous meticulous steps and techniques used in the process of crafting the faux-shagreen skin, much the same with the age-old techniques used for real shagreen. CushCush pays tribute to Nature’s most precious skin in Pari faux-shagreen tray by highlighting this age-old skill with contemporary design, inspired by the elegant form and distinctive (pearl) texture of the stingrays. Studying the same moulding technique used in Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman, the complex-curve form of Pari faux-shagreen tray took 2 years of exploration and perfecting, before the faux-shagreen is inlayed.

Meet our newest addition to the Niskala family: Baby Rambut!

An homage to Bali's vibrant spirituality and mystique, the 'Niskala: Forms of the Unseen' collection is designed by French designer Pierre Charrié, taking us on a journey to a mysterious world where mythical creatures seem to incarnate into beautifully hand crafted objects and furniture of collectible design.

Rambut stools is one of three designs in Niskala Collection. Conceived as a cheeky duo of opposites, Rambut (meaning hair in Indonesian) is a reference to the black and white natural fibers used for temple roofing and traditional performance costumes respectively. Natural fiber artisan Jero Puspa and skilled craftsman of CushCush deftly braided and arranged the fibers, creating their lively appearance.

This April, CushCush is participating in Road to Jia CURATED – Tokyo Edition 2026, a curated exhibition bringing together nine Indonesian design studios, presenting contemporary works shaped by material exploration, craftsmanship and cultural narratives. As the international prelude to Jia CURATED 2026 in Bali this August, the Tokyo Edition exhibition takes place at (PLACE) by method in the heart of Shibuya from 2–19 April 2026.

For Tokyo Edition, CushCush presents a selection of signature pieces developed in collaboration with both Indonesian and international designers, reflecting the studio’s ongoing explorations on materials, craftsmanship and innovation rooted in its local context and culture.

Among the highlights are the Baby Rambut stools in black and white, a new addition to the Rambut series from Niskala Collection, a fun duo of opposites made of plant fibers, referencing the Balinese philosophy of Rwa Bhineda. Designed by award-winning French designer Pierre Charrié, The Rambut series draw inspiration from poleng, the iconic Balinese checkered textile that symbolizes balance and coexistence.

Also featured is the Dress Me Up! collection, a playful combination of furniture and textile design celebrating the Balinese way of life and architecture, designed by the French duo Clémence Plumelet and Geoffrey Pascal from Studio Marcel Poulain. Showcasing hand woven and naturally dyed textile outfits in soft natural tones that complement the lounge chair, the collection celebrates the deep connection between textiles, rituals and identity.

Completing the presentation is the Pari faux shagreen tray, a contemporary interpretation of the elegant form and pearled texture of stingray skin. The piece highlights CushCush’s dedication to material experimentation and refined craftsmanship, translating ancient traditional techniques into a modern design object.
