Sovereign Gibraltar is pleased to congratulate the winners of the GATA Gibraltar Tax Essay Prize 2026.

William Saunders of Deloitte, Gibraltar has been awarded the overall prize for his essay, "Gibraltar's Approach to Transfer Pricing: A Systematic Review." Katherine Azra Happold has won the Under-25 Prize for her essay, "The Return of Taxation as Unlawful State Aid: Implications of the UK-EU Agreement in respect of Gibraltar." Katherine joined Hassans as a summer student for the past two years.

The prizes were presented today by Nigel Feetham KC MP, Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry with responsibility for Taxation. This year's competition, judged by a distinguished panel including Grahame Jackson of Hassans, Rory Mullan KC, John Azzopardi of RSM, Lynette Chaudhary of Sovereign Tax Services and Jamie Trinidad KC, attracted a record number of entries from Gibraltar, the UK, Spain and South Africa.

Lynette Chaudhary, Tax Director at Sovereign Tax Services, said the Group is proud to support an initiative that promotes excellence in tax scholarship and encourages informed discussion of Gibraltar's tax framework.

Sovereign has sponsored the biennial GATA Gibraltar Tax Essay Prize since its inception, supporting the development of rigorous thought leadership on Gibraltar taxation and international tax issues relevant to the jurisdiction.
