🚗 Spring’s here — don’t let your guard drop
As the days get longer, it’s easy to become more relaxed — but that small shift can create opportunity.
👉 A recent update from Rugby Police found 15 unlocked vehicles in under an hour during a targeted operation.
Criminals often rely on simple opportunities — an unlocked car can take seconds to enter.
Simple checks can make a difference:
✔ Always double-check your vehicle is locked
✔ Don’t rely on the sound — check the handle
✔ Make sure doors are fully closed
Adding physical security can provide an extra layer of protection.
Using Sold Secure Approved products can help protect your vehicle, including:
🔒 Steering wheel locks
🔒 Pedal boxes
🔒 Wheel clamps
🔒 Security posts
These act as a visible deterrent and help reduce the risk of opportunistic theft.
If your vehicle locks are not working properly, an Master Locksmiths Association MLA Approved locksmith can help ensure they are secure.
A simple check — and the right security — can prevent a costly mistake.

🔐 Is your door cylinder Sold Secure approved?
When you need a locksmith, it’s important to know that the locks being fitted to your property are independently tested and proven to perform.
Unfortunately, we are seeing reports of untested cylinders being installed and sold as “high security” — often at significantly higher prices than properly tested products.
Choosing a Sold Secure approved cylinder helps ensure that your lock has been independently assessed for its ability to resist common methods of attack.
✔ Independently tested
✔ Trusted by the security industry
✔ Designed to protect homes and businesses
💡 Tip: If you're having a lock replaced or upgraded, ask whether the cylinder is Sold Secure approved and fitted by a trusted professional locksmith.
Protect your property with security products you can trust.

🔎 Misleading locksmith adverts are appearing at the top of search results.
Some rogue operators advertise very low call-out fees and appear local online, but jobs are often routed through national call centres and passed to subcontractors. Once on site, customers can face significantly inflated prices.
Even more concerning, reports show untested locks and cylinders being fitted and sold as “high security” — sometimes significantly higher than properly tested products.
This doesn’t just affect emergency locksmith services. It can:
• Mislead and overcharge consumers
• Undermine professional locksmiths
• Damage trust in independently tested security products
• Erode standards across the security industry
To address this, the Master Locksmiths Association has launched a UK Parliament petition calling for stronger governance around emergency trade advertising, particularly where paid adverts dominate search results.
As part of the MLA family, and as a leading certification body for security products, Sold Secure is supporting the campaign to help protect consumers and uphold confidence in trusted security standards.

Lancaster Police have warned cyclists about a tactic used by thieves where their own lock is placed on an unattended bicycle, preventing the owner from taking it and allowing the thief to return later.
To help reduce the risk, cyclists are advised to use high-quality bicycle locks that are approved and rated by Sold Secure, the UK’s independent testing and certification body for security products.
Using a Sold Secure approved lock — and ideally two different types of locks — can help make your bike a less attractive target.

Bike theft in London remains a huge issue — and many bikes are never recovered.
A new BikeRadar report highlights that an estimated 40,000 bicycles are stolen annually in London alone, and only around 2% of stolen bikes are ever recovered. Surveys also show that just over half of cyclists use Sold Secure SS104 Gold or Diamond rated locks — meaning there’s room to improve how we protect our bikes.
A Sold Secure-approved cycle lock can make your bike a much harder target.
High-rated locks (especially Gold and Diamond) have passed independent security testing and are designed to delay or deter attacks from thieves using powered tools and cutters — making your bike less desirable than one with a cheap or untested lock.
Here’s why this matters:
• 40,000 bikes stolen every year in London — that’s many cycles gone).
• Only ~2% of stolen bikes are recovered.
• Just 54% of respondents use high-rated Sold Secure SS104 Gold or Diamond locks.
Our top tip: Always lock your bike securely with at least one Sold Secure-rated D-lock or chain — and where possible use two different types of quality locks. This significantly increases the time and effort a thief needs, making theft much less likely.
