What an excuse 44-year-old David Harkins had for failing to appear at court last week in relation to shoplifting!

The reason? He was in custody after our Spree Offender Team arrested him for more shoplifting offences… 🤦

Rural crime rarely stops at county borders, and no single organisation can tackle it alone.

Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team works alongside neighbouring police forces, national policing units, local authorities, rural organisations and other specialist partners to prevent offending, share intelligence, recover stolen property and disrupt criminals using our countryside and road networks.

Joint operations such as Operation Chambers bring agencies together to check vehicles, identify offences and target those using rural roads to transport stolen property or support wider criminality.

By combining local knowledge, specialist skills and information from our communities, we can achieve far more together.

Today’s theme is about listening to rural communities and ensuring policing continues to develop around the challenges they face.

Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team works closely with farmers, landowners, rural businesses and residents to understand local concerns, improve our response and target the issues causing the greatest harm. We work closely with Cambridgeshire Countryside Watch, NFU - National Farmers' Union, and the The CLA to name few.

Rural communities are often the first to notice changing crime trends, suspicious activity and emerging problems. By reporting incidents and sharing information, you help us build a clearer intelligence picture and shape how we patrol, prevent crime and support our countryside.

Police reform is not just about changing structures. It is about listening, learning and improving the service we provide.

Have you seen Sakib?

We are appealing for help to find 17-year-old Sakib who could be in the Kettering area after being reported missing from Nottingham on Saturday, August 1.

Sakib is about 5ft 7in, of a slim build, with short black hair and was last seen wearing a navy Nike tracksuit and black and white Nike trainers.

Officers are concerned for his safety and would like anyone who has seen Sakib, or knows of his whereabouts, to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting MPCN/2502/26.

Likewise, Sakib, if you are reading this, please contact us so we know that you are okay. You are not in trouble; we just want to make sure you are safe.

Our Rural Crime Action Team were on patrol in Peterborough when they found two stolen vehicles in Parnwell.

Both have been seized and investigations in the matter are ongoing.

To help keep your car safe from these opportunistic individuals, make sure that you:

🚗Lock your vehicle and make sure your window and sunroof are shut, even if you are leaving your vehicle for a few minutes
🚗Keep your keys safe, out of view and away from your front door
🚗Always manually check your car is locked
🚗If you have a keyless entry car, your vehicle will automatically unlock when they key comes within a short distance of the car. To prevent thieves from being able to clone your signal, keep the keys away from the car and in a screened or signal-blocking pouch

Chief Constable Simon Megicks had a busy time on Friday when he was joined by MP Andrew Pakes on a walkabout in Peterborough city centre.

During these patrols, he:
🛴Seized an e-scooter
👮Spoke to members of the public
🛍️Met with Positive, the city’s Business Improvement District, and went to various retailers to talk to them about any issues they may face

These patrols with the MP and partner agencies allow us to discuss concerns that have been raised to us and talk about the ways we can work together to reduce them.

How our officers helped jail a gang of carless thieves from Peterborough is being shown on national TV tonight (7 September).

Osvaldas Milius, Mindaugas Savickas and Kornelijus Girdeika stole the luxury cars, worth more than £500,000, across the north and south of the county in 2024.

The case is featuring on Channel 4’s 999: What Happened Next at 9pm and will be available to watch on demand afterwards.

The trio were jailed in August last year for a total of nine years and 10 months after all admitting conspiring to steal motor vehicles.
