995 Dinky toys. 50 years of collecting. £146,400 result 🚚
A private collection gathered since the 1970s just sold at Vectis Auctions in Stockton-on-Tees.
The die-cast vehicles date back to 1934 and were the brainchild of Frank Hornby. Production ran until 1980, with ∼1,000 different models made.
*Sale highlights:*
- Pre-war cream + maroon double-decker bus → *£4,655*
- Red 501 Foden diesel wagon (est £120-£140) → *£4,655*
- Burnt orange Foden flat truck (est £700-£900) → *£4,165*
Vectis said there was "competitive bidding" for the exceptionally rare Foden wagons + trucks.
Total far exceeded the £100,000 estimate.

The real deal: 2024 AC Cobra MkIV heading to auction 🏁
Not a replica. Not a homage. This is an *actual AC Cobra*.
One of just *4* made in the MkIV run ahead of the new GT models.
*2024* build, only *600 miles*, Azure Blue, wire wheels + wooden steering wheel.

Leaf-sprung ladder frame chassis. 347ci Ford V8. Tremec manual. Very little else.

Bagpuss creator’s artwork sells for £400k+ at auction 🎨
More than 500 paintings, books + collectibles from Peter Firmin’s Kent home went under the hammer at Canterbury Auction Galleries.
Firmin co-created some of Britain’s most loved children’s TV characters with Oliver Postgate: *Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine + Basil Brush*.
*Top lots:*
- Signed Basil Brush artwork → *£6,000*
- Gabriel the Toad character + Nogbad vs Ice Dragon illustration → *£4,200 each*
- Clangers + Soup Dragon illustration → *£3,500*
- Bagpuss with Emily + Professor Yaffle → *£1,600*
All 534 lots sold, with bidders joining from around the world.
Some of Firmin’s finds will be donated to The Beaney Museum in Canterbury.

John Travolta’s white suit is going to auction 🕺
The famous 3-piece suit he wore as Tony Manero in _Saturday Night Fever_ could sell for *$200,000 - $400,000* (£150,000-£300,000).
Worn during the 1977 disco scenes with the Bee Gees soundtrack, the suit even has a handwritten inscription from Travolta.
It’s one of *1,700 lots* in Propstore’s 4-day live auction in Los Angeles next month, with memorabilia worth a combined *$10m* (£7m).

Christie’s just made history: $1.1 billion in one night 💥
New York’s spring auctions delivered record after record.
*The highlights:*
- *Jackson Po***ck* _Number 7A_ (1948) → *$181.2m* — new artist record
- *Constantin Brâncuși* _Danaïde_ (1913) → *$107.6m* — 2nd highest sculpture ever sold
- *Mark Rothko* _No. 15_ (1964) from Agnes Gund collection → *$98.4m* — new Rothko record
- *Joan Miró* _Portrait de Madame K_ → *$53.5m* — broke a 14-year record
The evening began with 16 works from SI Newhouse’s collection totaling $631m.
The 20th Century Evening Sale then added another $490.3m, selling 96% by lot.
