First day of summer school. Is this clock trying to tell me something?
Make it Inverclyde
Learn to sew, crochet and take amazing photographs in our delightful studio overlooking the Clyde in the picturesque west end of greenock.
Modern sewing machines are too clever for their own good! It took me ages to get this machine working because the micro switch that senses the presser foot position had a loose connection. And look at all those stepper motors! I know they’re just asking for trouble! Only trouble is I can’t replicate the thread breaking problem that my customer had. I did give it a good clean and bizarrely that can help. Fluff clogging up the mechanism stops the machine running smoothly and jerks can break the thread. There’s a few burrs on the throat plate that I’ll polish out but they’re not really a problem.
Have no known function. I think this has been my favourite sentence in human biology!
Are you wondering why I have a hairdryer in my sewing machine mending picture? Well this old Newhome home machine had really stiff selector gears. You’d need hulk strength to turn the k**b! And that’s because the old grease gets all gummed up over time and goes a bit hard. Gently heating with a hairdryer helps it loosen then a new application of silicon grease on the plastic gears will hopefully keep it finger friendly until the next service.
I needed some black thread today. This was all I could find in a hurry. I think I inherited it with one of the second hand machines. It’s is awful. It breaks and tangles and it feels weird too. It might be its age, or its constitution but I’m afraid it’s going in the bin. A job that should’ve taken a few minutes took at least 5 times longer because of bad thread. I should know better but I’m making the mistakes so you don’t need to.
Now that my studies are finished for this year I can get started on all the wee neglected jobs. Can you guess what I’m making?
