Porcupine Upholstery
Trained in traditional upholstery methods I work from my small studio at Fire Station Creative to transform old chairs into something you'd be proud to own
Porcupine Upholstery is here to help you rescue and restore your favourite old seat using the finest wools, leather and linen. Porcupine will also accept commissions for more modern pieces – perhaps some dining room chairs need a fresh look to compliment new décor, or a favourite chair has come to grief in day to day living. Do have a look at our Footstools for some affordable and highly memorable

Big reveal coming very soon. A Parker Knoll is a well built staple of the chair world. This one just called for something a wee bit more eye-catching and I am certainly turning it into a conversation piece...

Paula from for my 2nd post of the takeover.
To expand a little on what i do:
Armchairs, wingback chairs, dining chairs, footstools, headboards...the list goes on and as i said before, no two projects are the same.
The item is stripped back as far as is required, often to the frame. A lot of antiques, some more modern, they might be sprung..or not, in need of a comfier seat..or not. Regardless, every project is taken back to the base stuffing and given a fresh layer and beautiful new fabric top.
As well as working on clients' projects, a highlight of my job is teaching others. I run regular weekend, as well as 6-8week long term time classes. Mostly in the classroom area in , where students bring their own projects to work on, and also footstool workshops
All details are on my website and early booking is advised as spaces fill up quickly.
I'd be happy to chat about projects that you have in mind to commission, projects you'd love to learn how to do yourself in class or just show off the beautiful array of fabric sample books that i have in the studio. Pop into studio 7 on 6/7th June.

First of 3 posts today:
Good Morning, I'm Paula from Porcupine Upholstery. Welcome to my day on the takeover.
My work as an upholsterer takes place in Studio 7 within Fire Station Creative.
Having previously worked as an interior designer, i fancied a change and decided to focus on upholstery.
Learning to upholster old pre-loved furniture taught me many new skills but it is a job where no two pieces are the same, and even after more than a decade, i am always learning something new. The best bit, for me, is seeing the, often apparently skip worthy (to some), piece become a client's most treasured and admired piece in the home.
And...i still get to work with the most stunning fabrics... Bonus!! 💕
Here are a few images to give a peek inside the studio but please come and visit during Open Studios 6/7th June 🙏

Want to learn upholstery? Let me teach you! This was a squishy old chair with collapsing back springs. Still comfy but now also beautiful. New springs, new stuffing, finished with a sumptuous teal chenille from 💕
