Detailed Designs at Lacombe Hardwood

Finally done. I’m really liking this one. Kinda rustic looking for a gym, but it cane up nice. The new Dog Creek gymnasium/community center. I like the logo.

Finally, lines and stain all on. Sealer goes on tomorrow. Centre decal, and top coat early next week. They be ball’n soon .

Annnnnnd so starts another set of lines. I wasn’t willing to sand deep enough to get the tannin out of the maple, for several reasons, time , cost, loss of wood etc. So, there will be a lot of colour in this floor. I have an idea for that though. If you can’t hide it, let’s make it a feature. Stay tuned and feel free to drop an opinion. Or, maybe not.

It seems to be a month for gymnasiums, and just look at this one. Poor thing, it hasn’t had a lot of love , not for a while anyway. It’s getting some now though and that’s all that matters. It’s another small isolated community gym. Everyone I meet is excited to have their gym looking new again. I have to admit to mild panic, about the “looking new again “ part. We will see.

I love community halls, and community gymnasiums. The word community is it. Everyone in the area uses these facilities, and that makes them special to families. So when I get to do one. It’s a good time. It’s been a long time since Canoe Creek elementary school gym has seen an upgrade, but here it comes. Complete Resand, new game lines and refinish. Looks great, thanks for the job.

This was a great one. Old fir. Milled locally in the Cariboo, dried and then installed . Unfortunately, someone glued the board edges together during install, before sanding. So over the last 20 Odd years , as the boards have tried to move with humidity changes, the couldn’t. So they just split at their weakest point. So to sand and refinish it, I have to repair these jagged cracks. Some up to 1/2” wide. Thank goodness for a track saw to cut strips in the floor. Then install the new fir strips, screw everything down, and cut fir plugs to hide the screw heads. Nothing to it, except time and patience. I was surprised at how nice it turned out.
