Foundling Furniture reclaims waste wood furniture in order to repair, refinish, or make useful and decorative pieces that are environmentally responsible through their entire lifecycle. Foundling Furniture documents these processes on social media and on the Foundling Furniture blog, seeking to raise consumer awareness about the problem of disposable furniture, and to contribute to the growth of the re-making community.

Angry. And depressed. Feeling exhausted just thinking about the work to fix this.

The large flowers on each side are far less exciting / fanciful than on the source panels. Not sure yet that I really understand what is going on in the originals, not how I would recreate something like it without tracing a pattern on the wood (as opposed to mostly freehand composition with just layout guides.)

The red oak I am using is a part of a panel I found at a flea market a few years ago.

Updated to add: sewing machine has been claimed. Thanks, everyone.

Local to Hamilton people -- please help me find a home for this solidly built vintage Kenmore sewing machine! The light and seeing needle run and there are many accessories included (eg buttonhole foot, hemming foot, etc).

The body could use a dusting, but, otherwise probably ready to go.

Help me find a second life for this vintage machine?

Good news! is a great guy, who will do his best to honour this legacy piece. Based on a quick look, he figures if could date to the 1890s!

It's hard not to feel discouraged. There is so much reclaimable material, and, as a society, we are so unprepared (still) to sort and retrieve usable stuff.

I struggle not to feel overwhelmed.

Argh. Still at Ashley and Wilson. This was perfectly restorable until someone stole the drawer and it sat in yesterday's rain. Now .... against all reason, I think I am going to take it. There's lots of beautiful birch in there.

Sorry everyone who loves vintage -- I will try to use the doors and other key pieces intact in something; but, overall, I will be reusing the pieces not trying to remake the drawer.

Still better than letting it rot here, I think?

or I can bring it to you.

Fun fact: you can use your hand drill with a smaller twist drill bit to bore small holes in steel. For delicate work, it prevents overheating and the bit skipping across the surface quite so readily.

Punch making went so well yesterday, I have decided to branch out from simply using a hacksaw on the metal rod.
