Change of plan. My textile project was getting lost as curtains, so I chopped them up and turned them into a wall hanging.

I call this one ‘The time I borrowed my friend’s shorts, went to Uluru, and met a seagull’.

I’ve been thinking a lot about memory of late, and photography. About how the moments people capture of you are rarely the ones that stay with you years later. I really did meet a seagull at Uluru, and I did borrow my friend’s shorts, and it’s these seemingly insignificant events that I find myself returning to and treasuring so much.

It’s all made of fabric scraps sewn onto a background of Muslin that I dyed a while ago in Annie Sloan Coco.

Thoughts??

I spent the day making some perfectly imperfect cakes for afternoon tea. What would we call them? Ugly cakes? Punk cakes? Wabi-sabi cakes? Whatever they are they taste divine and I had some fun :)

A very simple, rustic cast iron kettle from the mid Showa Period (1926–1989).

Although perhaps not as classically beautiful as the others I’ve photographed, I actually like this one the best. I just love the wabi sabi highly tactile, cratered surface that mimics natural weathered stone.

Relief-carved Japanese copper kettle most likely dating from the early Taisho Period (1912-1926) in front of my Scandinavian Pink painted backdrop.

You can just make out some of the gleaming copper peaking out of the blackened surface. ❤️

Today’s gorgeous kettle is a classic example of mid 20th-century Japanese metalwork. Love how the light captures the intricate, hand-cast Cloud Dragon motif, symbolizing power and protection.

Made of bronze with a beautifully aged, dark chemical patina this would have been used to heat water on a charcoal brazier.

Looks beautiful in front of my earthy pink backdrop.

A different look for the same vintage cast iron Japanese Tetsubin as my last post, this time in front of my Annie Sloan Capri Pink backdrop and incorporating some of my Mother-in-law’s vintage Obi textiles.

They’re both such avid collectors with exquisite taste. Lucky me, so many beautiful objects to play with!

Got some time to kill on some gentle projects so I’ve started documenting my Father-in-law’s impressive collection of stunning Japanese Tetsubin.

This one is a piece of vintage Nanbu ironware from the Iwate prefecture, a large, scenic area located in the Tōhoku region of northern Honshu, Japan’s main island. Isn’t it just so beautiful?
