High quality Marquetry table by P. Gabrini of Napoli. C 1880.
Half background of central design colour matched to opposite side due to fading.
Entire piece re polished, giving greater depth of colour to individual inlays such as Palisander and Harewoood. (Stained sycamore)
The natural beauty of these veneers was obscured by cellulose fade.
This was replaced by button and bleached shellack, applied by hand in the traditional way.

Regency brass- inlaid sofa table.

The old brass was removed due to major damage. New brass lines were cut and filed to fit the existing rebate.
The curved ends were bent to shape around an aluminium pipe.
Edges and underside of brass lines scored with a hacksaw blade for maximum adhesion strength, then pressed with araldite flush with the surface.
The most pleasing feature of the work was that the beautiful faded to***co colour of the rosewood veneer remained unchanged, in spite of the extent of repairs required.
These also included water damaged veneers.
