Tonewood - just listen to this spruce tree!
Can you hear the sustained ring signaling straight, dense grain needed for instruments such as violins and cellos? The wood acts as a natural amplifier, capturing the vibration of the strings and moving air to create acoustic volume and tone.
What should Amos do? Cut for big gorgeous slabs for tables or chase some blanks?

At CS Woods, we talk about how every tree in our care has a story. When we mill, dry and create with that tree, we become part of it. When you bring it into your home, you do too. This is Amos talking about this tree, and our story:
“My Dad…. ❤️
Up at 5am…
Out on the road in his big red truck.
Headed to Georgetown, Colorado to pick up a tree.
Not just any tree, the oldest tree in Georgetown.
The town took it down. I’m not sure exactly why.
But trees like that don’t last forever and aren’t taken down without deep considerations, so whatever the reasoning, my first inclination is to support it.
At any rate… My Dad.
He’s so proud the town has thought about him when considering the care and respect they’d like their tree to receive. That they recognize that he feels about their tree the way they do. It’s a treasure…
He loaded his trees with the story that the town has once again doubled down on the recognition of the mutual appreciation and respect by turning down another last minute offer and following through with CSWoods getting the tree…
He was supposed to call me when he got on the road. I told him I would hear from him midday. His endless optimism prompted the reply, I’ll see you midday… Internally I laughed, I know better.
So it’s 11am. My dad calls me…
He’s radiating happiness just from his voice…
He’s on the road.. He’s got his logs… Loading with a backhoe was a thing, but he’s on his way…
And he flatly says….
“I’m so happy! I’m doing what I love”..
and he means it with all his heart… I know it’s as genuine as humans get…
And I get to play a pivotal roll in that… He’s bringing that log to me….It will be in my care by the end of the day… I’ll actually be the one who will take those logs from tree to dried slab… and then probably build with them once they find their purpose…
I’m the type of person that tries to find a sense of meaning and purpose in everything I do, and today I don’t even really have to try… I’m just gonna take a little of that dad energy today and follow right on up and say…
“I’m so happy! I’m doing what I love”
And you can read into that a thousand ways….
❤️ - Cheers
