This is not a Louden Furniture piece but it is a very SOLID, well constructed piece that I put one of my painted finishes on.

Dear friends:
John Miller and I have made the very hard decision to start phasing out our Louden Furniture line this year .. this will be our 20th year and I think we have gone as far as we can with it.
Over the last several years, our company and products have started not being found in search engines like they used to. This is due mostly to Google algorithms and furniture manufactures and retailers with large advertising budgets that are dwarfing our very small, 2 man company. In the earlier years when we started offering nationwide shipping, our business gradually became more and more dependent on our national distribution via the internet and our website ... and unfortunately, less and less on local sales. Then add to that the ever growing cost of the white glove shipping that our furniture requires, the unpredictability of shippers and the cost of just getting our furniture to the shippers, the numbers are just not working in our favor. Unfortunately in this case, quality, value and customer service just isn't enough - the public has to be able to find us.
When I started this business with John in 2006, all we had was a verbal agreement between us and a handshake, and for 20 years that has been good enough for both of us ... and amazingly, we have never had the slightest problem with that informal agreement. It's really a pretty amazing thing to find a person you can trust that way, I found that in John and he in me ... we both love the furniture we build and the people we build it for - we have never taken the uniqueness of our company and situation for granted.
.. now I want to make very clear that we plan to continue building Louden Furniture as usual for the next few months while "phasing out" the line, but eventually our turnaround times will be getting longer and shipping will be at a very minimum. John and I will continue working together in one way or another and that may still involve a bit of the Louden Furniture line.
There is always the chance that things could improve and we give it another go at some point - but I've tried everything I can think of to turn things around, so I'm not very optimistic and need to focus my priorities and capital in another direction - BUT we’re still leaving the door open 🙂
On a brighter note, over the last few years, John and his wife Barbara have become certified in Advanced Biostructural Correction (a form of chiropractor) and their in-home business has really grown within their Amish & local "English" community! ... this is something they both love and get a great deal of personal satisfaction from.
I am going back to furniture restoration and some custom furniture building - that is where Louden Furniture started in 1991 and is something that I have always loved and missed being able to do - I am very much looking forward to doing more of it as I work toward retirement.
I can't tell you all how much we have enjoyed building this furniture and the trust so many of you have put in our little company - thank you all for your interest and support over the years! - David Louden
