A recent commission I finished off for some lovely clients of mine who live on the coast. Solid Oak floating shelves mounted to some existing cabinetry, painted shelving to match the walls, and a solid timber exterior entertainment unit made from White Oak.

The entertainment unit has a cubby space on the left side for blanket storage, 3 sets of drawers with under mount soft closing runners and a continuous timber panel on both the front and top to give it that seamless look.

Great also to have some help from Steve, my employee of the month (only person working with me) so he's held the title for a while now 😂.

Clients are pleased are punch which is the icing on the cake! Enjoy.

A few photos of a commission I made for a client in South Auckland. Floating entertainment cabinet, Hi-Fi cabinet, and a few floating shelves for good measure.

All pieces were made with white American Oak, the cabinets have a wrap around grain so the sides and the top match giving the piece continuity when looking at it from either side, more work but well worth it in my opinion.

The main thing that put a smile on my face and made the mildly frantic working over the Xmas break worth it was hearing the clients say they were stoked and loved the craftsmanship

A few pics of the White Oak dining table and accompanying bench seat delivered to my lovely clients in Auckland over the weekend. Personally one of my favourite pieces and some good challenges involved in the design / build.

Update on the dining table and matching bench seat, both assembled and sanded and I'm now at the stage of building up the coats of finish before getting this on its way to it's new home.

Dry fit of a bench seat that's to pair with a dining table that'll be going together tomorrow.

Through dovetail joinery for the legs which while going into a modern house gives the piece a refined look.

More pics to follow once that's ready, then onto finishing 👍

Day 1 or 2 spent milling (0.5m^3) of white American Oak ready for the next set of client commissions. Just 1 more day to go then I'll let the rough milled boards to settle for a week or so before getting onto the dimensioning and assembly.

Part of the commission will be a 1.2m x 2m dining table with accompanying bench seat. The piece has a contemporary style with a broad sides and minimal chamfer to go with the clients new home.

The legs will be joined by a female dovetail keyway that'll be milled into the underside of the table top and the male part on the end of the table leg to allow for wood movement.

Few jobs I finished up before going on leave for 3 weeks back to the UK to see friends & family.

1. Outdoor furniture is a truswood staple, X brace legs which gives it great looks but also a solid foundation, this table was made using the clients own timber (Garapa) which also added to its heft! Stainless steel fixing throughout due to the location near the coast

2. Replacement drawer and door fronts for a clients kitchen, this was a follow on from the custom pantry + cupboard unit I made for them. Stoked with how they looked afterwards although I forgot to snap it!

3. Last but not least, a birthday gift a client asked me to make for her husband's 60th, he saw something similar in a vineyard and wanted one for home. Oak barrel was from a vineyard in Matakana so has heritage and a fantastic smell to boot. Scribed internal panelling with a shadow gap which I used to illuminate the insides and a few spots for hanging bottle / corkscrews on using bronze boating nails.

Window seat install that I completed at the end of last week, scribed to match the walls giving it a seamless / permanent look. 4 compartments inside, with shaker style panelling at the front and finished off with brass hardware for the lids.

Just finished up a small kitchen install for our client who was looking to make the most of an awkward space near their fridge. We worked with them to design, build and install a tall pantry unit with a cupboard to the side of it to sit their coffee machine. The solid Rimu top for the smaller cabinet really sets it off.

Small job for the Puhoi Sports Club, fitted bar server made with Macrocarpa from the sawmill down the road - Cypress Sawmill.

Ready for the Scouts that are back in action as of last week!
