We all share a unique set of memories from years of dining at Cha Chaan Tengs.

In this exhibition, we’ve attempted to document these collective dining experiences through the lens of tableware. We focused on the iconic staples of Hong Kong cha chaa teng culture—the ”Breakfast,“ ”Set Meal (常餐),“ and ”Afternoon Tea（下午茶).“

The challenge we pose is simple: can you identify the meal just by the utensils, even without the food present?

Beyond the nostalgia, we are also exploring a design question: Must the future of the Cha Chaan Teng always prioritize efficiency? Can we design from a more thoughtful, human-centric perspective?

Tableware is not just a vessel for food; it is a vessel for our shared dining stories.

| Design Education 黑暗神秘生物|

當我們蒙上眼睛，想像世界會變得很大。

在 2025 暑假，我們為 策劃了以五感為主題的設計思維教育項目「黑暗神秘生物」。

課程以 Design Thinking 為框架，第一天帶領學生從感官探索出發，第二天製作互動體驗並設計出屬於他們的黑暗神秘生物。最特別的環節是讓父母化身考察員與生物互動，再憑感覺繪畫出子女設計的神秘生物。

透過這場感官體驗，除了學習設計思維，也讓我們理解如何用眼睛以外的感官感受世界。

The design keeps what matters unchanged, using form and material to express familiarity in a fresh way.

A contemporary rebrand for a Hong Kong cha chaan teng that bridges local culture and modern design.

Muted tones, structured typography, and balanced geometry form the base of a brand that feels both familiar and fresh — nostalgic in essence, but modern in attitude.

As one of Hong Kong’s long-standing brands, SHAM CHAI KEE is expanding beyond its home city — bringing authentic cha chaan teng culture to new audiences abroad.

The identity reflects this shift: rooted in tradition, but designed for the next generation.

Less words. More understanding.

Responding to the new Hong Kong law on reporting child abuse, our second deliverable with Hong Kong Christian Service is an Easy Read eBook designed for minority mothers.

After our workshop, we transformed complex legal language into clear, visual, and easy‑to‑read material — helping mothers understand their rights and responsibilities in child protection.
The goal: make important information accessible to everyone, regardless of language or literacy level.

Designing empathy into tools for mothers

Thank you for the invitation from Hong Kong Christian Service, we hosted a design thinking workshop with minority mothers in Hong Kong, exploring child protection through empathy — not judgment.

Instead of telling them “don’t do this,” we invited them to understand why abuse happens and how communities can support mothers better. Together, they co‑designed a set of “Mother Tools”, imagining what could help them become better parents.

After analyzing the workshop data, we turned their ideas into simple illustrated tools, so even with language barriers, minority mothers can easily understand how to nurture and protect their children.

Kids in Action 童塑研究所 | PMQ Seed 2024

In 2024, we set the theme Kids in Action, inviting children to take the lead in exploring creative ways to reduce plastic pollution.

We designed a visual framework that opens the door for kids to co-create — turning their imagination and ideas into inspiring visual outcomes that celebrate creativity and empowerment.
