We have had a few animations with Hermès, but last year was the first time we worked on their Christmas cards. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
The feeling of seeing the Orange Hermès envelopes with logos delicately embossed is little short of surreal. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Our calligraphy tools were placed in the Orange Hermès leather box especially designed for that purpose.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Our belongings were hid in a cabinet that was cleverly designed and comes with leather handles.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
The more you work with the brand, the more details you notice and the more you understand its allure.​​​​​​​​

‘What is it like writing Christmas cards for luxury brands?’​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
The answer: you better have mastered grace, speed, and accuracy!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
While it’s totally fine to take 30 minutes to craft an elegant Xmas card, with brands sending out gifts the order often starts from 100pcs - and you often need to return them within a week. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
If you add the buffer for shipping, that will be 5 effective working days, which means 20pcs/day.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Not a lot, right? ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
For an A6 card (A4 folded twice), if you’re writing speed is 5 min each (which is REALLY fast!), that means ~2hrs of work per day. That’s only the writing.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
After including lining up the paper, confirming the name list, packing etc, each order can easily take 10-15 minutes. So that will make it 6hrs of non-stop writing per day, for at least 5 days 🤯 ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Either you charge the brand a ridiculously high fee, or you embrace the project with grace, speed, and accuracy.​​​​​​​​

Gold foil paper - one of the greatest mysteries of all time!​​​​​​​​

After years of trial and testing, we’ve cracked the code:​​​​​​​​

If you’re foiling on non-cellulose (paper) surfaces, go for the gold foil that has a burgundy backing! If the back is silver, it’s usually no good for foiling on different surfaces for industrial reasons that is too much to contain here.​​​​​​​​

The gold foil we’re using now in ALL of our projects is manufactured in Germany. It never fails 👌🏻​​​​​​​​

8 years of classical calligraphy training and 4 years into this business.

It’s time for some massive changes.

I spent last year rethinking how I can benefit more while staying true to myself and exercise my strengths.

After travelling Europe over the summer, some ideas crystallised and solidified.

From this year on, we will be gradually retiring our in-person classes.

We will focus more on providing e-classes for students across the continents, serving corporate clients, and private classes. These details are available on our website, and the link is available in our bio.

Wedding invitation and other design invitations will continue to be part of our offering to showcase the potential and versatility of calligraphy.

Sprink Calligraphy is also exploring new ways to collaborate with different parties to create a greater impact, and expand the space for all fellow femalepreneurs (calligraphers for now) to grow together, creatively and economically.

You will see us sharing more on classical calligraphy from now on, as well as thoughts on running one’s own business.
