A recent of architects highlights an important reality:

🔹 Most architects consider craft to be important -or very important, to architectural practice, particularly when it comes to cultural identity, heritage preservation and material authenticity.

🔹 Yet collaboration with craftsmen is still largely occasional, often limited by budget constraints, project timelines and access to skilled artisans.

🔹 At the same time, there is strong consensus that meaningful collaboration between architects and crafts is essential for sustaining and preserving our heritage.

One thing is for sure. We all value craft.

We recognize its role in shaping identity and preserving heritage.

But we have not yet fully integrated it into everyday architectural practice.

We must aim at closing the gap.

If we are serious about protecting and celebrating our built heritage, stronger partnerships between architects and craftspeople must move from exception to standard practice. Audrey Forson
