Places have often been important sources of inspiration in creating art. Be it for poetry, painting or in our case, furniture design. We are spending some time in the beautiful Portofino for the week, the muse behind a few of our pieces including the Niasca Sofa.

Suppose it’s easy to slip
into another’s green skin,
bury yourself in leaves
and wait for a breaking,
a breaking open, a breaking
out. I have, before, been
tricked into believing
I could be both an I
and the world. The great eye
of the world is both gaze
and gloss. To be swallowed
by being seen. A dream.
To be made whole
by being not a witness,
but witnessed.
(Sanctuary, a poem by Ada Limón)

Today, we are celebrating one of the treasures of Gaziantep, a city in the south of Turkey that has been hit by the disastrous earthquakes earlier this month.
Kutnu is a traditional fabric that originated in Gaziantep in the Ottoman times. Some of the earliest examples of Kutnu dates all the way back to the Silk Road, where silk brought by passing merchants weaved together with local grown cotton created the unique textile. A precious fabric, it was traditionally used in clothing worn by Ottoman royalty. Recent years have seen the revitalization of Kutnu in luxury fashion brands such as Dior and Lacroix, as well as in the world of interior design as one of the most sought after fabrics for home accessories such as cushion covers and runners.
We wish for all artisans and craftsman who were affected by the horrific events healing and a swift recovery in this time.
