ATLEY. | A little look behind the scenes as I work through a new prototype for a private commission.

Still refining the details, but I love seeing an idea begin to take shape.

ATLEY. | Every object should earn its place -
By being useful. By feeling good to use. By becoming something you want to keep.

That starts here, with good leather and skilled hands.

Made in Melbourne, with care.

This is an incredibly difficult one to write.

From the conception of ATLEY. I was incredibly fortunate to have Jen Bishop Jen Bishop, interior design blogger + award winning journalist in my corner.

Over the years, we talked about everything. Business. Ideas. Motherhood. Family. The wins, the worries, the disappointments and all the messy bits that never make it onto Instagram.

Just a few weeks ago, we were still having those conversations.

I didn't know it would be one of our last.

Jen is sadly no longer earthside, and I still can't quite believe I'm writing those words.

She was such an important role model and mentor to me. Someone I could talk through an idea, a worry, a win or a complete disaster - and know I'd get the truth.

She championed small businesses and independent designers fiercely. She understood the courage it takes to put an idea into the world and how much it matters when somebody chooses to back you.

A few weeks ago, our conversation turned to something that happened to me years ago.

I had approached a global company with an idea.

They replied. They wanted to see more.

So I shared more.

The concept. The strategy. The products. The thinking behind it.

I was a small Melbourne business and thought I was being given a seat at the table.

Then came the polite no.

Years later, I saw things that made me look back at that experience very differently.

Jen and I talked about what moments like that teach you.

About protecting your ideas. Knowing the value of what you bring to the table. And not assuming that because you're the smallest person in the room, you have the least to offer.

Your ideas have value before a big company validates them.

So if you're building something small, be ambitious.

Knock on the enormous doors. Send the email. Pitch the crazy idea.

I still do.

Just know the value of what you're carrying when you walk through them.

This was only one small part of my conversation with Jen. There is so much more I hope to share, when it feels right.

For now, I'll leave you with this.

Back the little guys. Their ideas might just be the big ones.

Vale Jen. 🤍

ATLEY. | I’ve always loved the idea that the things we use every day can be just as considered as everything else in a space.

That’s really what ATLEY. has become for me.
Taking something completely ordinary and functional, and making it beautiful enough that you actually want to live with it.

Pieces that don’t need to shout. They just belong.
